Of the many acts in Detroit's techno underground, Octave One are perhaps the most difficult to place. The trio's productions are filled with warm chunky grooves, though their occasionally minimalist style is too raw to invite comparisons to techno-soul mavericks like Terrence Parker or Kenny Dixon, Jr. Consisting of tracks from two separately released EPs, The Living Key (To Images from Above) solidly balances the hard and the soul on tracks like "Covenant" and "Emissary". ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
