Offering a blend of smooth Christian hair metal for the first half of its career and a somewhat tougher blend of alternative hard rock and heavy metal for the second half, Whitecross manages to represent the latter more than the former on the Mega 3 Collection. This compilation offers three albums in one package: the live One More Encore, the tense Equilibrium, and the brooding Unveiled. One More Encore sums up the group's hard-rocking early years, and it sounds great when performed by an older and rougher Whitecross that has shed the conventions of its early work. Equilibrium is a smart and interesting album that shows the band taking its cues from acts like Stone Temple Pilots with the most emotive batch of material in its catalog. And Unveiled is the somewhat awkward bridge between the two styles, jumping between tight-fisted rockers and second-rate White Lion ripoffs with equal enthusiasm. It may not be all of the band's best material, but this compilation does a good job of summing up Whitecross' accomplishments in the '90s.
