Critic's Review

4.5 out of 5 stars Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
For die-hard vinyl fanatics, this 20-song double-album was the virtually the first and last domestic attempt to show Holly's best work in the best possible audio, and for once MCA did something right, mostly courtesy of producer Steve Hoffman, who located first generation sources for everything here. The vinyl equivalent of From the Original Master Tapes isn't quite as desirable as that CD, and it's not remotely as comprehensive as The Complete Buddy Holly box, but it is superior in sound to the quality of any previous LP reissue of Holly's work, and particularly supplants 20 Golden Greats, the single-platter compilation from the late 1970s.
