Santa Cruz, CA emo-thrash quartet Fisticuffs Bluff was formed in the fall of 1993 by guitarist Drew Gilbert, bassist Dave Louie and drummer Jay Con-ui; with the addition of singer Summer Mastous the following January, the band recorded its first demo, soon issuing a split single with Angel Hair. Bassist Paul Costuros and drummer Yoshi Nakamoto replaced Louie and Con-Ui in early 1995, and after touring the country with Nuzzle, Fisticuffs Bluff re-entered the studio before disbanding; their collected output was compiled for release by the Troubleman Unlimited label in early 2000. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
