George Mitchell
This reggae bassist is actually George Mitchell II and named his son George Mitchell III, a contribution to the genealogy of one common name that discographers if nobody else might appreciate, considering how many performers named George Mitchell there actually are. The one identifying himself as the second came along actually later than that in the series of performers with recording credits under this name. He has been recording but more often performing live with reggae bands in the regions of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and West Virginia since the early '90s. Bassist Mitchell, who also sings and has created vocal arrangements, has also made use of the stage name of Delly Ranks, much less common than George Mitchell but just as apt to create confusion since this is also the stage name of Delroy Foster, a Jamaican performer, naturally in the same genre, whose sides include the somewhat direct "Gimme the Weed." Mitchell began performing in his church band, then hooked up in the mid-'90s with a combo called CFI Massive. Subsequent affiliations include Born Jamericans and (in 1999) the quartet Ras Prophet. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
