Horrified

When Greece's death/black metal scene first exploded into action in the early 90's, Horrified were among its earliest and most promising bands. Formed in 1990 by vocalist Gore, guitarist Timos, bassist Kostas and drummer Stelios, the group issued a couple of independently released E.P.'s (‘90's Eternal God and ‘92's The Ancient Whisper of Wisdom) before signing with local Black Power Records. With new guitarist Stavros replacing the departed Timos, the band made their full-length debut on 1993's ambitiously symphonic black metal opus, In The Garden of the Unearthly Delights; but despite obtaining overwhelmingly positive reviews for it, they inexplicably broke up the following year. Gore subsequently relocated to London but he and Stavros eventually managed to re-launch Horrified with original drummer Stelios and new bassist Thanos, releasing 1998's Animal through Black Lotus Records. After extensive touring with the likes of Immortal, Mercyful Fate and Manowar, Horrified re-entered the studio with renowned death metal producer Fredrik Nordstrom (At the Gates, Dark Tranquility, etc.) to record their powerful third album, 2002's Deus Diabolus Inversus. ~ Ed Rivadavia, All Music Guide
