Jetone
With the rise of laptop techno in the early 2000s came Jetone, one of the genre's more celebrated artists. By incorporating subtle glitch effects into ambient techno soundscapes, his style of techno had enough digital aesthetic to differentiate it from standard analog techno. Yet, on the other hand, relative to the noisier fare of artists such as Kid 606 and Twerk, his reserved application of laptop-generated glitch made his music still accessible to the ambient techno crowd who were able to appreciate the melodic elements of his music. This careful balance of glitch and ambient techno allowed him to cross over between the two scenes. As a result, this Montreal-based producer became a rising star seemingly overnight thanks to his affiliation with such esteemed labels as Pitchcadet, Tigerbeat6, and Force Inc -- initially the three most important supporters of the laptop movement. Plus, his ambient work for Alien8 under his born name inspired yet more acclaim.
As a graduate student studying digital acoustics and software, producer Tim Hecker spent years dabbling with electronic music before finally debuting as Jetone. His Pitchcadet album, Autumnumonia, appeared in 2000 and garnered his first wave of acclaim. A year later he moved to Force Inc and released another LP, Ultramarin, that was a bit more accomplished and definitely more recognized. In addition, he made an appearance on the Tigerbeat6 Inc. compilation in August 2001 just as Ultramarin hit the streets. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
