Neruz
With his first release in august of 2005, Neruz signified his entrance into the musical landscape with A2: Assimilating Adam. Adam, while being a largely unrefined effort on the whole showcased his diverse writing ability and gave promise for future releases. Listeners wouldn’t have to wait long as Ruz would team up with Belgian MC ElecTrik ShocKs for the November 2005 release of Se7en Days. Under the group name of Babbleon these two MC’s elevated each other and their individual evolution can be seen here in comparison to their respective solo releases up to that point. It was a very balanced LP despite being recorded in just a week. Tracks such “Letter 2 My Baby Girl” and “Summer Days” demonstrates the duo’s story telling ability, where tracks like “International Attack” and “Eata Dick Up” show that they can still stay close to the roots of MCing. Making a habit of quick turnarounds Ruz came roaring back with his sophomore solo release in January of 2006. Through The Fog is a collection of tracks all written and recorded during the MC’s stay in London, UK between September and December of 2005. For the most part ‘Fog is both darker and more refined than Assimilating Adam. Neruz digs deep into his mind as he reflects on relationship troubles from a stronger/ less fragile perspective as demonstrated in “When Luv Is Gone” and “Full Circle”. Much of the album is also devoted to addressing the ills of the society from which he comes, and foretelling the difficulties faced by being an American abroad. It was retrospective album that came at a defining point of the young MC’s life. Pushing on into the future, many would point to the Halloween ’06 release of the “Free Black Shirt” mixtape as Neruz’s most digestible. Using industry instrumentals, Neruz forges new life into them and created an 18 song tape to keep the world on it’s toes until his next official release.
