DFan17902's Album Review for Vulgar Display of Power
""
Meh.
I know that this album is one of those that kept Metal alive in the post-Black Album early 90s Grunge era, but it really is overrated. Pantera is "groove-metal", and they pretty much invented the sub-genre so it's not surprising that there isn't much variety on this album. Almost every song starts out with a chug-chug riff that continues until the end, only to interrupted by one of Dimebag Darrels solos. I know this is what the band is about, but it does get tiring. The only tracks worth listening to more than a couple times are "This Love" and, of course, "Walk". The album is necessary for all Metal fans; if only to understand what it was that killed Glam and was the progenitor of Nu-Metal.
