Miserable Mook Rock
An interview between myself and Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin:
Jason Reeher: Wes, your band is terrible, isn't that right?
Wes Scantlin: Yeah, if terrible means awesome and, like, totally rocking.
JR: One reviewer called Puddle of Mudd "this generation's Ugly Kid Joe."
WS: Yeah, that was pretty cool, wasn't it?
JR: Dude, it wasn't a compliment. He was saying that your band is akin to a third-rate hair metal group.
WS: What's "akin" mean?
JR: Never mind. You're on Limp Bizkit's record label. What's Fred Durst really like?
WS: Aw, man, he's the best. People think he's all like, you know...but really he's like...you know?
JR: Umm, yeah ok. What do you think of the term "one hit wonder?"
WS: Oh, well, yeah this dude I know, like he had a one hit wonder like a pipe he got in Yucca -
JR: I'm not talking about weed, Wes. I'm talking about bands that have one hit then disappear for years only to show up on network contest shows so people can make fun of them on the internet.
WS: What's the "internet?" Hey, pull my finger, man.
JR: No.
WS: Come onnnnn, man, just do it.
JR: I'm out of here. One last question: do you realize how unbelievably juvenile your band is, and how all the 14 year old kids that like you guys have to grow up, and when they do you'll be forgotten completely?
WS: Awesome, man. Sounds righteous.
(end)
This interview never really happened, of course. But it could have - "dude"...
