Robert Horton

There was once a trombonist from Birmingham, AL, named Robert Horton; a few miles upstream in Memphis, the most well-known musical Robert Horton is a singer, guitarist, and songwriter who has contributed plenty to the band Cooley's House. The band name refers to an Irish pub catering to relaxation and meditation, representing a move indoors for a clique of musicians who previously called themselves the Camp Fireboys. That group had existed for nearly a decade when a new name was considered a requirement for a proposed shift in direction, for the most part a concentration on original material that would allow bandmembers to enter Cooley's House as a writing project. Horton apparently responded to this challenge, having already established a sympathetic vocal interplay with bandmate Brenda Patterson. This collaboration worked just as well at the songwriting boards, Horton and a variety of co-writing combinations coming up with titles such as the weary "Been There Before," the cheery "Perfect Plan," and the dreary "Ring Me Up." "Bolt from the Blue" represents Horton in action as a songwriter on his own. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
