The Rockin' Roadrunners were a quintet from Orlando that actually managed to build up a serious local following, without that ever translating into recording success, despite being signed to two separate labels in their four years of actvity. The members were Charlie Lytle on rhythm guitar and vocals, Dave Morris on bass and vocals, Russ Hamilton on lead guitar, Jack Lander at the keyboard, and Steve Grier on the drums, and at one point they were taken under the wing of engineer Lee Hazen and under contract to his own label, Lee C. Their history coincided with both the British invasion and the psychedelic era, and the latter sound was well represented about their trio of singles. Their best songs include one that is more psychedelic than punk, called "Urban Meadows," resembling both the unhurried, highly melodic side of Procol Harum's best early work and the Bee Gees surreal and somber brand of pop-psychedelia, complete with high harmonies; and the defiant yet beautifully sung "Go Away," written by Dave Morris, resplendant in crunchy guitars and lots of attitude. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
