Yvonne Doll & The Locals

Singer and guitarist Yvonne Doll was born in Cincinnati, OH. The daughter of a music teacher, music was always a part of her life. She started training early, taking piano lessons for over a decade, guitar lessons for nearly that long, and even spending four years learning to play the alto saxophone. There never seemed to be any other dream Doll wanted to reach for, other than a professional music career. She worked hard at it, performing at bars and coffeehouses. At her very first gig she lost her guitar pick. It was replaced by one donated from a member of the audience. The panic from that night has never been forgotten and Doll has carried a pocket full of extra picks with her to every show since then. Determined to get her career off the ground, Yvonne Doll toured nationwide, making new fans every where she went. In 1996, she released her first album, Bliss. The debut offering carries folk-rock tracks like "Walk on the Water," "Verona Rome," and "Waking on Impact." That same year, Doll found her Locals. The threesome was supposed to serve as a backup band, but soon became a lasting fixture, and Doll became Yvonne Doll & the Locals. The Locals are bassist Christy Nunes, violinist David Goldman, and drummer Dave Buss. Buss was later replaced by drummer Ross Rutherford. In 2000, the group released the album, My Kind of Freak, which showcased tunes like "Winter Skin," "Ohm," and "Unglued." The next year, Yvonne Doll & the Locals went to work on a third album for 2002. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
