Japanese giant releases multicolored, flash-based players with direct USB connection and optional FM tuner to compete with the iPod Nano.
Sony rolled out its newest line of MP3 players today, sticking with the multicolored, rainbow-flavored theme it started with its Bean players last September.
The tiny, flash-based players are meant to compete with the iPod Nano, coming with storage capacities of 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB. The players feature a direct USB connection and a "quick charge" feature that allows the three-hour battery to be charged in three minutes.
The Walkman plays MP3 files and those in Sony's ATRAC format, but it doesn't support Apple's AAC format or secured Windows Media files, meaning that it won't play music downloaded from the likes of Napster, Rhapsody, and Yahoo Music Unlimited.
"With the Walkman, we are offering owners a winning combination of style, ease of use, and functionality," Sony Europe's Jeffry Van Ede said in a statement. "This MP3 player is the must-have for music-lovers on the go."
