Umm.. I have one thingie to say.

You don't have to be loud.. You're supposed to use all focus on how you sound and let the microphone make you voice reach intolerable volumes.

There are videos on vocal training for extreme metal. I can't remember the name of the DVD but you should be able to get it through anywhere that sells DVDs.

I think it's called the Zen of Screaming.

here's what you can do, if you don't get the dvd. i hear the dvd is good ,from everyone though i have yet to find it. i recommend it by popular demand. but i can tell you some things from experience. scream, just like a good singer knows, from your diaphragm. your gut. flex those abs and give it a push. this will help you reach the lowest of lows. shaping your mouth in the shape of an "O" helps while doing this. as far as high pitch shrills, tighten those vocal cords, tighten that neck, and let out a scream. these may hurt at first, but a solid two weeks of this and you should be set. Slipknots Iowa album is a great CD to mimic while practicing this. then get as many albums with screamers, growlers, or shreikers as you can and try to get their styles down in the shower. practice in your room, studio, or wherever. everytime you get a chance. Chimaira, Lamb of God, and Devildriver are good albums with nice vocals to get down. the mic will help you with volume. a good chorus and close delay effect will help make it sound wet and sustained and not so dry and short. holding the mic close to the mouth with your hands around the sides of the filter are good for boomier lows. and holding the mic back a little is good for high pitch shrills and shrieks. Annunciation is important with these vocals as well so people know what the hell you're saying. practice getting the pronunciation of words down before delivering them. and most of all, record yourself, and when you get time, play it back. then you'll see what needs to be worked on and will come up with new ideas to enhance your vocals. i hope i have been of some help to you. i look forward to seeing you in the field.

go with clean vocals, those are normally much better unless you have the lungs of a whale, like jorgan sandstrom.
