Elton John vomits, moves on
Elton John reportedly walked off the stage during his concert in Sydney, Australia, yesterday to vomit but resumed the show five minutes later, an event that has been dubbed the "Chunder Down Under." The incident occurred two hours into the concert, according to the Australian Associated Press, as John was set to perform "Crocodile Rock." When he returned to the stage five minutes later, John told the capacity crowd of 15,000, "I thought I'd better chunder in the toilet than all over the front row," using an Australian colloquialism for vomiting. John, 59, played for another 45 minutes without further interruption. A tour spokeswoman told Reuters that the veteran entertainer had been suffering from an upset stomach.
"He got it out and got on with it," the spokeswoman said.
Replicas of Clapton's "Blackie" up for sale
Eric Clapton fanatics with $24,000 lying around the house can snag a replica of legendary guitarist Eric Clapton's famed "Blackie" guitar. Guitar Center stores throughout the US are selling 185 replicas of the Fender Stratocaster axe, for which Clapton paid about $300 in 1970. Blackie was Clapton's primary stage and studio instrument between 1970, when he built it from the best parts of three Stratocasters bought for $100 each, and 1985, when it entered retirement. Guitar Center's replicas even include faux worn wood and cigarette burns. The retailer paid $959,500 for Blackie at a 2004 auction that benefited Clapton's Crossroads rehab center in Antigua. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the replicas will also go to Crossroads, according to a Guitar Center statement.
British princes reportedly planning concert
British Princes William and Harry are reportedly organizing an all-star charity concert to honor their mother Princess Diana of Wales. The concert, to be held July 1 of next year, would mark the 10th anniversary of Diana's death, according to The Sunday Mirror. The brothers are looking to land a star-studded lineup for the event, including Madonna, Beyonce, Pharrell, Kylie Minogue, the Killers, Elton John, and George Michael. The concert would be a charity event for British homeless charity Centrepoint and other causes Diana was devoted to before her untimely death in 1997. It will be among the first concerts to be held in the new $1.5 billion Wembley Stadium, which is still being built, and will host nearly 90,000 fans. No acts have yet been confirmed. Diana, 36, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, 42, and their driver Henri Paul, 41, all died when their car crashed at high speed in the Pont d'Alma tunnel in Paris, France, on August 31, 1997.
Yoko Ono pleads for forgiveness in ad
As the 26th anniversary of the death of John Lennon approaches, his widow Yoko Ono is using the event to ask forgiveness from the world's suffering people. In a full page advertisement in Sunday's New York Times, Ono marked the upcoming anniversary of Lennon's December 8, 1980, shooting with ad titled "Forgive us." Directing her words to "people who have lost loved ones without cause," to "the soldiers of all countries and of all centuries," to civilians who were injured or killed, and to "people who have been abused or tortured," Ono wrote, "Know that your loss is our loss...Know that the burden is ours."
She also stated that she didn't know if she could yet forgive Lennon's killer, but added "healing is what is urgently needed now in the world. Let's heal the wounds together." Ono asked that December 8 become "the day to ask for forgiveness from those who suffered the insufferable" and for "healing ourselves" and thus the world. Ono was with Lennon when he was gunned down as he returned home from a recording studio on December 8, 1980. The shooter, Mark David Chapman, remains in New York's Attica state prison. His fourth request for parole was denied last month.
