Classic album from reggae legend released in format that will also include three videos of UK from June 1977.
Bob Marley is making an Exodus from the CD format.
Island Records is reissuing the reggae legend's classic 1977 album Exodus on a reusable 256MB USB stick that will also include three videos of Marley performances from London's Rainbow Theatre in June 1977 and desktop wallpaper. The stick is a limited edition, as only 4,000 units have been put up for sale through Bob Marley's Web site.
To commemorate the album's 30th anniversary, a host of other goodies have been posted to the Marley site for sale as well, including a limited CD/DVD edition, an LP version, a book of 200 images, and an album of Marley's historic Rainbow concerts in the summer of 1977. Vinyl and DVD releases are also on the slate.
Exodus is the first album to be released on a USB stick in the UK but not in the US. Other artists like the Barenaked Ladies have released albums in North America. Both Keane and the Fratellis have released singles on USB sticks in the past with great success.
"At Island, we believe it's the role of record labels to offer the consumer choice, and, where possible, to extend our format portfolio," Island Records GM Jon Turner said in a statement. "The unparalleled range that we are offering on Exodus certainly meets these objectives."
Marley's fifth studio album was recorded in 1977 in the UK after Marley left Jamaica following a failed assassination attempt. It was eventually released on June 3 that year and stayed in the UK charts for 56 weeks. It includes some of Marley's most famous tracks, including "Jammin," "Exodus," and "Waiting in Vain."
