inFamous Demo Impressions

That's right, I go the inFamous demo!!! And how is it??

F .U C. K. I. N. G. A. W. E. S. O. M. E.

Sucker Punch has never once disappointed me. Sly Cooper has always been my favorite series, but I think Sucker Punch may have outdone themselves, and I think that I might actually have a new favorite game :o but I'll decide on that when I actually GET the game.

I have played the demo three times so far, so first off, let me just say that this is one hell of a long demo. Takes about 30 minutes, plus after the first mission of the demo you can basically go around the entire first island of the whole game, which is awesome. This 30 minutes consists of a long mission, two medium-lengthed missions, and one short mission. Plus another great thing is that for the first and last mission, you're the "Hero" rank (The top 'Good' rank) and for the second and third mission, you're the "Infamous" rank (Top rank on 'Evil' side) so it gives you a pretty good taste of the benefits of both sides. When I get the game I'm going with good :D

Powers - In the demo you have about a half-a-dozen powers unlocked, leaving the other 15 or so powers a complete mystery. All of the powers are electrical, of course, but they all have a different feel and provide different options for various situations. And note, not all of the powers are strictly-combat based. You can use some to manipulate your surroundings, like moving cars with the shockwave power, some help with platforming, like the glide power, and if you see someone on the ground, you can either heal them, trap them, or take the electric signals in their brain away and kill them o.O (Bio-leech). Overall the powers are the star of this game.

Platforming - Fun. F. U. N. In inFamous, you can basically climb anything and go anywhere. The world is your jungle gym. Cole can climp up the face of buildings, slide along electrical wires and trainrails, run from rooftop to rooftop, everything you'd expect him to be able to do, which makes this game a whole lot of fun. A whole lot. But the question is, is platforming in inFamous better than Sly?? Well, in a way. I do miss the blue sparkles, but, in inFamous, everything is a lot more natural. There aren't random hooks in sewers, or conveniently placed pipes in random places, et cetera like in Sly. inFamous has everything placed where you would expect to see it. BUT, in another way, Sly is better. In inFamous to climb up the side of a building, all you have to do is run twords it, jump, and then keep the left analog stick pointed up. In Sly, you aactually have to do al of the moves, which makes me kind of like Sly better. Overall I think when it comes to the bottem line, I would have to say that Sly is still the best platformer. But, I shouldn't be comparing inFamous to Sly. Bottem line is that inFamous has great platforming and scaling the city is a breeze. And did I mention that it's fun?

Story/Cinematics - Read the prequel comic, interesting. Beginning of the game, epic. Set-ups of the missions, smart. Characters, cool. Everything is good story-wise, and I like the comic style for (most of) the cutscenes. All around I think it's an interesting story with a lot of mystery. And to those who haven't read the prequal comic, read it. Google it or something.

Controls - Perfect. No other way to say it.

Graphics - I'm not one to care over graphics, but I think it's necessary to talk about them. They're...ok. I would say a little above average for PS3 games, but only a little little bit. I love the blur effect, things up close you can see easily, but things far in the distance are all blurray, it's just good-looking. I think it's good how they went for a realistic style instead of an illustrative looking game, or in other words, cel-shaded, like Sly. Not to say that illustrative graphics wouldn't fit in, but I just think that realistic suits the game just fine.

Overall - 9.5/10, for the demo. Again, it's lengthy, has variety, and gives a great taste of Empire City. Buying it May 26th, the day it comes out. I'm going to try and pre-order it so that I can get the extra Gigawatt Blades power :)

Can't wait for it's release, and remember, the demo will be on the PS Store on May 21 for all of you losers who don't have it already :P jk

Sucker Punch, you RULE.
