Best album of the decade, my personal picks #8

I got Modern Warfare 2 today It was oddly delivered to my neighbor though. =/ Oh well. Anyway, it's time to go on with the best albums of the decades, and we've reached #8.

Trentemøller - The Last Resort

Trentemøller ain't one of my favriotue artists, but I did love his album The Last Resort. It's been hailed in the electronic underground and it defainlty deserves it. While not all tunes are that memorable, some of the tracks ("Always Something Better", "Vamp") shows the beautiful side of electronic music. So why a #8? Well as I've said, it's not all of the tracks that are that memorable, and some of them does build up for something better and then it just leaves the build up and just goes slower... or something, I dunno it's hard to explain, but then again it does focus on bringing a atmosphere, and let you relax, rather than a dance record.. But it's still a good CD, and it's worth a listen. But beyond that, there's not a lot to say.

Best album of the decade, my personal pick #9

before we start, my friend Nicolai and his gf actually got back together. She regretted it and they came back together. So happy for them. So, on to best album of the decade, my personal pick #9:

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Original Soundtrack

I've always loved the Metal Gear series. For as long winded, conveluted and crazily complicated it can get, it was always well made and the stories was always full of memorable characters (well, except MGS2), and lots of unpredictable twists. MGS4 was no exception, and is actually just as good as MGS1. The soundtrack for the game is done my various artists, including popular and acclaimed film composer Harry Gregson-Williams. The soundtrack has a few memorable tracks, especially "Love Theme", which almost serves as the game's theme song. It'sa long and sad song, with some really good arabic lyrics and some really sad strings and acoustic guitar, it fits perfectly with the game. Then there's "Father & Sun", which really captures the sadness of the ending, though the song sounds like part of the soundtrack from Team America: World Police, where Harry also did the soundtrack. It makes the #9 spot, because for as great as most of the tracks are, some could have been better, and not all of the music from the game is included, including the new arranged version of "Enclosure", a track that originally appeared in MGS1. And it lacks the traditional MGS theme. Sure it's partially used in "Metal Gear Saga", but they could have used more of it, it's just wierd and kinda sad that the theme is not included, because Konami were so damn senstive about it, since they found out it beared a strange resemblence to some other music by a russian composer. A shame, but it's a great soundtrack and while it did fit the game well, it could also have been better.

BTW, there's three versions of this track. One version (the western edition) contains 17 tracks, and is sold on Konami's website. The Japanese version was released on May 28th, 2008(15 days before the game's release), and the first copies were in a jewel box case, which looks really cool. And the last edition is basically the same has the Japanese version, only in a standard CD case though. Those versions can be bought on play-asia and eBay.

Best albums of the decade, my personal picks: #10

2009 is over in little under 2 months, but it doesn't only mean the end of a year, it also means the end of decade, so it's only logical to make some kind of tribute to the best things that happened in 2000's, or as it's also called: The 21st Century. I'll try to get it done before new years. Let's start with the best albms from the 21st Century, but these are my personal opinon, so you'll probably see a lot of odd choices. Well, let's begin:

#10: Rob Dougan - Furious Angels(2 Disc Edition)

Music producer Rob Dougan has been around since the 90's, but what really made him famous was the track "Clubbed to Death (Kurayamino Variation)", which many people probably remember from The Matrix, and "Furious Angels" from The Matrix: Reloaded. The album itself was mainly a ****of tirp-hop/orchestral and Rob D. (Rob Dougan's alias)himself also sang on the album. It was original just a standard 14-track album, but it was eventually re-released with a bonus track (Clubbed to Death 2), and with a bonus disc, containing most of the tracks in instrumental form. While the CD is actually good, the reason why it's at #10, is because of some flaws it has: besides "Clubbed to Death"and "I'm Not Driving Anymore", there's nothing memorable about the album, and Rob's singing voice is.... well it's hard to explain, but I'd think he should more or less just stick to making music. But other than that, it's a good album, but I'd suggest you get the Double Disc version, it's better. 8/10

What Rob is up to these days is kinda unknown. He was supposed to work on his 2nd album, but no news have ever surfaced on it, and no one knows if he's even working on it, so it's best not to hold out for it, which is defaintly a shame.

sorry for being absent the previous week. :P

Haven't blogged for a week, for that I'm sorry. Got caught up in homework and reports. I've had to turn in both a science and a biology report today, bloody hell! A few things did happen though. I was at my grandmother's late birthday party back on friday, and it was ok I guess, pretty boring, but we had pizza, so it's all good. Found out though, that my cousin Simone (ya know, the one who tried to commit suicide, because she couldn't go to a party", has just given up school completely. She's a 10th grader, but she can't see why she needs to be in school and basically just don't want to do anything there. Her choice and boy she'll suffer for it later.

And there's two breaks I've witnessed as well. My brother and his gf broke up, but I can't seem to figure out why. I know his gf has winter depression and it was really bad, but other than that, I've been told so many other reasons by both of them, that it just get's confusing. So now my brother's pretty depressed. I know I should say it sucks for him, but this is not the first time he's depressed as this. He's constantly negative and even if you just talk with him, he'll all of a sudden talk about how unfair life is and how much he wants a gf. That's all on his mind, that he wants a gf. It's pretty stupid, and he should stop thinking all the time about getting one and just think about moving on and such. Yea I know it sounds mean, but he needs to stop being negative all the time. Another break up, was my friend Nicolai and his gf. Another break up I don't get, because they had so much in common, and were so happy together. But their still gonna be friends though, and so will my brother and his ex.

So far, today's been boring, had to go to some election meeting, where some politicans came by and talked about what they would do to fix this and that. It was so exciting, I only fell asleep one.

Tamara's present to me arrived yesterday, it was "Intensify" by Way Out West. Thank you so much Tamara! I love you so so so so so so so so much *kisses your lips and hugs you really really tight and never let's go* She's been home sick the whole last week, but thankfully she's better now.

On another note, a class mate of mine got swine flu aparrently, so she's just home and can't leave the house. She'll get over it, but I wonder what the gymnasium will think of that. We get absence if we don't show up for lessons, and the only time things like that, won't be counted as absence, is if it's school related. If we have to go to the doctors, get a surgery or something, it doesn't matter, you will be getting absence for it, and it's stupid. -.- And my teachers are almost always sick. There haven't been a week where I didnt have at least one lesson cancelled, and they don't get punished or anything. So unfair. -_-; Oh well. Gymnasium is a point higher than public high schools, so it's bound to be tougher.

My most complex movie review: Lars Von Trier's Antichrist.

Lars Von Trier, the Danish director. He's won and been nominated for several awards for most of his movies, and their kinda unique, yet also really weird. They are also controversial, but only because that he wants them to be. Usually, when things are controversial, it has something to do with the subject matter, or recreating some stuff to be as realistic as possible. Lars Von Trier is controversial, because he wants too. He even flipped off the juries of the Cannes Film Festival for not getting the Pamle d'or (the best film award). His latest movie "Antichrist" was shown at Cannes back in May, and it gathered a lot of controversy for a lot of reasons. This actually made me interested in watching it, but not in the cinema. I already read some of the stuff that would happen in the movie, so I didn't wanna go see it on the cinema. I finally got to see it on the internet though, and now, here's my review. It's gonna be a complex one, so bear with me on this one. Surprisingly I'm not gonna show a poster for this one, as it actually contains partial nudity.

The movie follows a couple. While having sex, their baby boy awakens and climbs out a window and jumps out of it, dying when he hits the ground. Due to the son's death, "She" (Charlotte Gainsbourg) is deeply affected by this and is in a state of grief. "He" (Willem Dafoe), is her husband, but also a therapist, so he attempts to "cure her". While discussing about "She's" biggest fear, he finds out she's deadly afraid of their cabin in the woods, so he takes her out there, in order to confront her fear. However, while out there, some weird things are happening and "She" suddenly starts to change...

First of all, yes the main characters in the movie have no names. In fact, Lars refers to them as "He" & "She". Also, they are only actors in this movie. There are other people appearing in the movie, but their faces are censored, which is weird. The story is... well it's defiantly one you might not get right away. It's one of those movies you really have to analyze, in order to fully understand what's happening. Nevertheless, it does have it's flaws. The movie is primarily split into 4 chapters, excluding prologue and epilogue. The first chapter (Grief) shows the start of the whole therapy thing, while chapter 2 (Pain: Chaos Reigns), has them going to the cabin. These sections kinda build up the whole psychological, but their kinda flawed. First of all, it's kinda boring and it feels like nothing is happening, or even achieved. That and there's a few sex scenes as well, and you do get to see everything, no censorship. Things do start to pick up at chapter 3 (Despair: Gynocide) and chapter 4 (The Three Beggars). It's during these parts that the movie becomes a bit scary, but also very weird. The sex scenes get's very weird and the violence is just disturbing. But it succeeds in making the movie intriguing. Even doing the first 2 boring chapters, you really get the feeling that something is wrong and that with the way "She" behaves, something severe could happen any minute. That and the movie constantly have a dark atmosphere. But like I said earlier, it's not all perfect, besides the first 2 chapters being boring, some scenes are just plain weird. The sex scenes were kinda pointless and could have been toned down and few of the plot points just comes outta nowhere and aren't developed a lot.

As I mentioned, the sex scenes and the violence just becomes weirder and more disturbing as the movie goes on, and while it defiantly makes sense in the end (given when you figure out why she's behaving strange), but it's pretty disturbing. Some of the violence later on is pretty gruesome, but why it needs to be in there, I honestly don't know. It's like they were just in there to shock people, and that's what the movie seems to be aiming for, shocking people. Some critics attacked the movie for being misogyny (Hatred/contempt for women/girls), and to be honest, I don't know what to say. The movie certainly deals with the theme later on, but I don't get the impression that the movie hates women. It just uses it as a plot line, nothing else. But I guess you need to see the movie, in order to judge for yourself. I don't think it hates women.

For all that though, the movie is actually well made, and shot really well. Yea it's artistic, but it looks good, and it also really succeeds in making you intrigued. Everything in the movie spells artistic all over it and I respect that, but it just creates some pointless parts. The acting is actually pretty good as well, especially for Charlotte Gainsbourg. She was award at Cannes Film Festival for best actress for the role, which is well deserved.

In the end, Antichrist is very complex to give a score. On the other hand, it's intriguing and succeeds in bringing that creepy atmosphere, but on the other hand, the movie expects you really pay attention and analyze the hell outta everything, and it's so unnecessarily disturbing and (some of it) sexual, and some of the plot points aren't developed right. If people wanna see something drifferent and on't mind the sexual and violent stuff, then check it out, but for everyone else, stay away. I kinda respect this movie, because it's so drifferent, but it's still hard to give a score, so I'll after consideration, I'd give it....

7/10
