Freak and Geek!!!

Phew!!!

It has been more than a year since I last posted at TV.com... And it's been a long and busy year, for sure. I'm now studying animal behaviour, which I always wanted to for my post-graduation career, but the demands are huge, in time specially. That's the reasons it took me all this time to climb up one level in the comunity. And since chances are that the progress will stay the same, I want to say YAY!!!

Regarding TV shows to watch, keep an eye in "Fringe" and "Wolverine and the X-Men". Surely the Canadian mutant is the favorite X-Man among fans, but they didn't have to give him such an protagonist role. After all, X-Men are a group of a lot of mutants, not only one. Eventhough, it's great to see them back in the little screen.

I have to go, people.

Stay tuned!

Study! Study! Study!

Hi, folks!

For those of you who watched "Golden Boy", an anime about the life of Kintaro Oe, the topic of my new blog entry will sound very familiar and it's no mere coincidence. But, don't worry! I'm not becoming a pervert travelling student. The thing is I've been a lot absent lately and for the months to come I'll be probably even more. And the reason is simple: I'm studing. In a few months there will be a selection for apost-graduation programandI want myMasters degreeto be this one. So, I'll miss you a lot (even more than I'm already missing), but I have to follow my dreams.

See ya!

Shame on you, WGA!

Hi, folks!

Life has been hard lately and for over a month I haven't been able to really sit in front of the PC and write the reviews I'd like. As a matter of fact, I haven't even been able to rewatch some episodes... But enough talking and let's go direct to the point.

WGA went on strike. No news about it. And although I really think their strike is a valid one, I can't really agree with it - not because of all the troubles it is already creating in our weekly shows or are bound to create in all this year's movie productions - due to the simple fact that these so-called writers in their majority aren't really worth of the name. In fact, they should improve a lot to think they would be really missed.

Yeah! You read it right. If it wasn't for the fact that most USA unions are really united, nothing of the like would be happening since the core of the problem affects only those freelance writers who most likely only temporarily cover some bases in TV shows and B movies.

The world isn't a perfect place, though, and now we, the audience, without no guilt on the matter, have to pay the price for it.

Light at the end of the tunnel for HEROES?

Hi, folks!

As many around here know, Heroes is one of my favorite shows. Or at least it was until the beginning of the second season and they overthrown us with so many characters and such a slow developing storyline.

Thanks to this, many ratings harshly dropped and coincidently (or not) the spin-off was cancelled. Tim Kring, the show's creator, was asked to do some explaining. But he didn't givemany explanations. In fact, hesaid everything would pay off and fans should look forward for episodes 7 to 11. I'm puting the full article here (extracted from somewhere else in TV.com).

See ya!

Heroes creator keeping head high

By Tim Surette - TV.com October 29, 2007 at 02:02:00 PM | more stories by this author

Tim Kring not bugged about criticisms of hit NBC show, says episodes seven to 11 are "best episodes we've ever done."

Heroes has been on the tips of television-viewers' tongues a lot this year, but not for the same reason as last season. The superhero show was a breakout hit last year, but this season it has been the target of critics who cite disjointed storylines, too many characters, and a lack of direction for disappointing fans. Viewers have also tuned out; last week's episode rang in the worst numbers in the key 18-49 demographic ever for the series, according to Nielsen Media Research.

But there's one man who isn't fazed and thinks fans shouldn't be worried either: series creator Tim Kring.

Speaking with The Los Angeles Times, Kring dismissed the numbers much like many other television executives have: DVRs, online episodes, the Internet. What's more, ratings drops are taking their toll on almost all shows, not just Heroes.

As for the rest of the criticism, Kring is promising that it will all make sense. "It will all be paid off by episode 11," Kring said. "From seven to 11 are the best episodes we've ever done." The Heroes crew has always said that this current season would be split up into "volumes," with the current one, titled "Generations," concluding midseason.

"One of the things that we found is that, by the end of the (first) year, we were dragging a tremendous amount of story behind us that had to be paid off in that final episode," Kring said during a conference call, according to Salt Lake City's Deseret News, "which made for an episode that the (audience) expectations are so high that it's hard to meet everybody's expectation."

But that didn't stop the writers from adding several new characters in the offseason, and the result is too much story to pack into one hour of television per week to satisfy everyone.

"Part of what happens on any show is that you enter a relationship with your viewers where you teach them how to watch your show and they teach you what they seem to be responding to," Kring said, reports the Deseret News. "And we, I think, are in this process right now of teaching the audience how to get used to the idea that not everybody is going to be in every single episode."

Some think that Heroes is just undergoing a sophomore slump. However, Kring may be thinking that viewers are looking at season two a bit too harshly by elevating season one unrealistically. "People tend to look at last season and see things in it that were not in it. We haven't deviated that much [from last season's formula]."

What do you think? Has the new season of Heroes failed to live up to the hype?

Police! Help!

Hi, folks!

It would be funny if it wasn't tragic!

There I was reviewing last week's episode of Private Practice, an episode very unlike the two previous ones and without one single shred of real adding to the show or the characters and I saying pretty much this with nicer words. But one hour later I was afraid of being attacked in my house by crazy fans of the show that started a HATE me protest and a mass disagreement movement on the review.

Well, exaggerations apart, I felt really intimidated - not by the angry mob of women saying that an episode in which they tell women to masturbate is the best one of the season so far, mind -, but by how far many standards in television have gone. First, because they allowed those lines to be aired at only 9 p.m. And second because asan appreciator of the art of writing (be it a novel, a TV show, a movie or a comic book) I thought the episode really shallow and without a real goal. Opinions are personal, of course, but the same way I have to respect my neighbour's, he should do the same.

The objective of this particular blog entry is to remind some people the reason we are here at TV.com: to discuss peacefully and friendly the shows we like/love/hate, knowing that other people may not agree with us and aren't wrong for doing it.

Thanks for your time. See ya!
