And this is why I hate the Abortion debate.
Usually I have not been given the time to post frequently on GS as I intended nor the time to put my personal views on my blog. However, today is is that day, I've been reading Psycholgy Today and so far the site has given valuable information about human behaviour and social issues that I find personally useful and interesting. However, the views of some of the writers of said website can be intolerant, ignorant and down right rude to their opponents views.
One of these examples are Christopher Ryan, who's argument is based on fallacious logic such as Ad hominem attacks, the Base rate fallacy and so on. His article called False Premise: Human Life is Sacred. Is something I'm personally against, given that his WHOLE argument is based on attacking the opponents of the agrument rather than the argument itself. Check the link to view his opinions about not abortion but about Pro-life supporters.
Naturally, I have given my own response to his views (Note that my comments are in Green.)
"Continuing this series on false premises and lame logic, let's take a look at the abortion "debate." One hardly need mention the irrationality of killing someone because you think killing is wrong. The doctor who was murdered yesterday in Kansas was the victim of this illogic. So are the tens of thousands of victims of "collateral damage" in bombings in Iraq, Pakistan, and Afganistan. Because "terrorists" killed 3,000 Americans in 2001, we're going to kill many times that number of innocent people in pursuit of said "terrorists" (and terrorize many times more whom we drive from their homes and traumatize by killing their family members)."
We don't "think" killing is wrong it is wrong. There many ways to deal with people, ending their life isn't one of them. For the record I never supported the War against terrorists either.
If human life is so sacred, why not protest avoidable poverty? Why not work to support anti-malaria measures that would save millions of sacred human lives? Why not work to end war or to protect children from environmental contaminants that kill thousands every year? Why not oppose capital punishment that kills innocents or long prison sentences for victimless crimes?"
I do protest against poverty,malaria and environmental disasters. WTH does this have to do with the abortion debate? Honestly, why don't you fight for the same causes? Instead, you trivialize your opponent's views through Ad hominem attacks. Nice. By the way, I also protest against capital punishment, but you assume I don't right? Cause all pro lifer supporters are hypocrites right? Ryan, your not only ignorant of the subject but also your opponents views.

We can't all be crusaders of ALL the problems of the world. Honestly, why don't you devout your time to the same causes? The world is a messed up place and you assume the people who oppose abortion can oppose all human rights violations? How ignorant and idiotic is that? Most people I've met secular and religious in the pro life organizations I've attended all devout their time for human rights as much as they do for abortion. We just choose to devout our time to abortion as well, or is that too much for you?

People have the right to say it is wrong and that they'd personally never do so; but that does not mean they can control what other people do. Most of these peoples opinions are based on their religion. In America (/banditkeith), don't we have freedom of religion? Haven't we learned for the past that making laws based on religion often makes things ten times worse or just plain backfires? I have nothing against religion and the people that support it but it's something to ponder.
Also, saying "Oh, well just have the baby and put it up for adoption," ... That's really cruel and selfish on that person's part. Millions of kids are already in foster homes, hoping to be adopted and go to a home and because of some people's ignorance, that number of children is multiplying. Many of these foster kids would say that they hate living this way and they'd rather die then having to go on as a mistake. Others find homes and become happy people but do we really need more homeless KIDS on the street?
I agree with Barack Obama's statement that the focus is not whether or whether not to abort, but to stop teen and accidental pregnancies. Wouldn't that just solve everything? Yet people seem to take that as "Oh, he's for it!" Like that's some sort of bad thing.
People have the right to do what they want, and the baby is still part of the mother at the time were an abortion can happen. So it's not like she's deciding for the child, as if it would be able to choice anyway.
