It's a list of the top 30 games that most moved me, captivated me and addicted me to their siren song. Many of these games also trigger emotions and memories of times gone past and people gone away. In that sense, they aren't just just the best games I played, but games games that have actually helped shape who I am. It has been a great ten years for games, In fact, if I were to make a list of my favorite games of all-time, this list would hardly change. What do you guys think, what were your favorite games of the 00's?

It's Really Cold

Hello all, hope everyone is doing well. It's freaking freezing here, not like I'm sure some of you are used to, but for Central Arkansas 20's-30's nearly everyday with no snow stinks. Add to it I personally hate the cold, and now do a job outdoors, well I've been a bit crabby. Finally finished all of the great games I wanted to play this winter, and grabbed the God of War Collection the other day. GOW I & II are two of my favorite games I've played many, many times, but was very surprised at how great the upgrade of it to the PS3 looks. The cut scenes do look dated, but I could care less, having fun with an old, bloodthirsty, psychotic friend! Other than that everything's about the same. Looking forward to tomorrow night, Dexter season finalie of whats been a great season building slowly. If your a fan and saw it, the last 30 minutes of last weeks show were some of the best scenes in the shows history IMO. I'll be stoked tomorrow night, but sad I'll be without my favorite Sunday night activity for a year or so. Hope everyone's getting ready for Christmas, and take care!

Kick Rocks!

Today I was presenting my last speech for speech class. Nervous because I wanted to go out with bang', for it to be the best that I've written. While presenting, these 3 girls in front the class, who are in another class, but happen to miss their first 7o'clock class and ended up in my 9 o'clock class, kept laughing at me while I was presenting. I know I stutter and I know my face can be funny at times, but damn!

Not only was I pissed and wanted to tell them to STFU and go interrupt someone else, but it got me off my track and I started to screw up which resulted in a low score. I am so mad right now its not even funny

Real Quick...

Before I go to sleep, I Just got home from seeing Marduk and they were awesome. Mortuus was getting insanely pissed though because they had constant technical problems. Then some idiot got on stage and tried to hug him but then Mortuss grabbed him, threw him to the ground, and then pushed him into the crowd. Absolutely crazy show. Merrimack and Mantic Ritual were also great.

Approaching the End of the Year and the Semester

Hello everyone! Nice to see you all again!

Well, it's been a while since I've last checked in here. How have you all been?

Things for me have been going well. As you all know, it's already December and the end of the year is approaching quickly. This also means that the end of the first semester of my Grade 10 school year is fast approaching as well and things are getting quite busy! The teachers are certainly piling up the work done in class and the assignments that have to be finished so that they can get it in before the beginning of Christmas Break. Still, everything is very manageable.

I have to say though, I'm actually going to miss this semester. This has been far better than anything I went through in my freshman year of high school. Classes were far more interesting (probably because two of the teachers I have are new to our school and very young too) and things went from "OK" at the beginning of the year to "a lot of fun" towards the middle. I'm definitely going to miss English class the most since that's generally the course I find most interesting.

Of course, the end of the first semester also marks the time when we have to pick what we're taking for next year, which is honestly always a confusing and long process for me It mainly has to do with the fact that there are so many things that I want to take (one of the disadvantages of growing older is that you no longer study things from a wider array of fields) but I can only take 5 other things other than the mandatory stuff (cut that down to 4 since I'm taking French for sure). Well, that's life! In case you guys are interested, here's what I'm currently leaning towards:

Grade 11 Physics
Introduction to Computer Science
World History to the 16th Century (or maybe American History, I'm not sure)
Media Studies

Yeah, as you can see, I'm more an English/History person. I'm keeping my options open though and taking Physics and Computer Science in case I feel like going into something like software since video games have been a pretty large part of my life.

Anyways, enough about school I just felt like sharing since I truthfully don't have much else to talk about these days.

My gaming has honestly come to a standstill now. I have not played ANYTHING since early November when I finished The Witcher: Enhanced Edition (great game, by the way). With Christmas Break coming up on December 22nd, I definitely need to get that fixed. I'm thinking about getting something for the PC since my brother did some massive upgrading recently and I want to make good use of it. Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect are two games I'm considering since I'm a big RPG fan. The Sims 3 (and its new expansion) is also something I've really wanted to get. My good friend is a huge fan of the series and I've had a ton of fun with the past entries in the series as well, with the main difference between us being that her computer can't handle the game so buying this would certainly be beneficial to both of us.

Of course, if I scrounge up enough money over Christmas, then I might just scratch all of that and buy myself a PS3. A library of interesting games + a Blu-ray player definitely seems like a good investment to me. Regardless, I doubt I'll be stuck with this gaming drought for long.

Hmm, well, that's pretty much all I have to share for now. I'll see you all again sometime soon (or not?)!

Uncharted 2 Review

Welcome to my first review blog. Long read, sorry

Naughty Dog's 2007 release of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was a game that took a lot of concepts from other notable games to deliver a quality campaign in it's first outing. Two years later we have the direct sequal Uncharted 2: Among Thieves as treasure hunter extraordinaire Nathan Drake is on another adventure; this time in search of the Cintamani Stone and Shambhala. Like the previous game Uncharted 2 won't bring anything ground breaking to gaming or the genre, what it does bring is an exceptional campaign and polished gameplay.

The first game was easily described as Gears of War mixed with Tomb Raider, with the narrative taking a lot of the aspect from major mainstream adventure films such as Indiana Jones. The sequal sticks to this general concept all the while maintaining it's own charm. The story itself while initially predictable does have enough twists and exciting moments to keep the player going until the end. The cast of characters may fit a good chunk of film cliches, but the voice acting is done so well that you'll hardly complain about the characters. In fact you'll probably begin to love and enjoy the characters and charm of the game due to a well done script that makes most of the dialogue(while sure at times cheesy) natural and amusing to keep the players interest.

Like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Among Thieves has a nice gameplay mix of platforming, intense gun fights, and from time to time some puzzles in between. This time by though Naughty Dog took the gameplay philosophy of the original and really cranked it up in multiple different areas. The most significant improvement to the core gameplay is the tighter gunplay and feedback. The original suffered from forcing the player to use too many bullets on enemies, and the general aiming wasn't as precise as other third person action games on the market. This time by the game not only offers a gunplay that is more precise, but provides proper feedback for each hit on an enemy. This coupled with better controls for throwing grenades, and a larger arsenal of weapons only amplifies the improvement to the core action of Uncharted 2.

The gunplay is matched with more elaborate set pieces and combat scenarios taht really take advantage of the gunplay improvements. You'll fight a numorous amount of enemies, in all types of environments. From the war torn streets of Nepal, inside a collapsing building, a confined speeding train to a chilling snow covered mountain in the middle of a blizzard. Not to mention one of the most beautiful environments in gaming.

While majority of the game is extremely linear and usually forces the gamer to play a certain way for specific moments. There are situations where the player is given a few more options than just what the developer dictates. You can do certain enivornments the usual guns blazing route, or you can use the platforming/climbing abilities of Drake to take up higher ground so you can force all the enemies to funnel in through one area.

Another tactic is to take a more stealthy approach. If done right you can turn some of the larger firefights of the game to a much more controlled and simple scenario if you can methodically take out all the enemies in an area without being noticed. For the most part the stealth mechanics of the game work just fine, although the enemy AI could be sharper at certain moments(especially an early mission that is entirely stealth). The cover system could also use some better lean and attack options but overall it is designed well enough to be a successful tactic.

The final piece of the action is the melee system from the original. It's still more flashy, than something elaborate and in general finishes the job in a few button presses. Although this time there are more environment oriented melee attacks that provide potentially quicker finishes if timed right, or positioned right. The melee still comes at the expense of leaving yourself wide open to the surrounding enemies, which is a nice way to make sure the melee isn't an overpowered safety crutch for the player.

The platforming, climbing, swinging mechanics from the original are all back and for better or for worse work the same way. The controls are tight enough to not be an issue, and the camera is hardly an issue like it is in other games of the same genre. The issue here might be that the game is too direct/linear with what you are allowed to climb and traverse to move forward. There are points in the game where the surrounding area could legitimately provide mutliple paths for the player, or providing mutliple areas that one could use as a strategic vantage point against the enemies. This can be frustrating as times, as sometimes it's not exactly clear what you can climb and what you can't. As a good chunk of the same types of surfaces that were allowed to be climbed in earlier portions of the game, won't be allowed in later scenarios.

The other area that might be a concern to some is the puzzles of Uncharted 2. Like the original they still aren't very difficult, but this time they also don't play as large of a role. The few puzzles that are in the game are elaborate enough to be interesting. However, the lack of challenge and how they are used in a more spread out procedure this time by breaks up the pacing from the rest of the gameplay experience.

The presentation and narrative in Uncharted 2 is amazing. Simply stunning graphics from a technological standpoint. From the animations, to the rich detail to the environments, to little things like an impressive draw distance, water effects, the way the snow reacts to your movements. There is a ton of attention to detail when it comes to the visual department of Uncharted 2. It's also awesome that the art work of the game is as impressive if not more than the technological aspects of the game because it really helps the game's environemnt come off as simply stunning. The audio work is also very good, from good voice acting, to a catch theme, to a thunderous musical score that brings in the punch at all the right times. Uncharted 2's campaign is a complete beast when it comes to the presentation area.

The narrative itself is very hollywood popcorn flick. However in this case I'd have to argue for the game and say it isn't a negative. If anything Uncharted 2 embraces what it is, and doesn't try to be something that takes itself too seriously or beat in a message when it isn't trying to make one. It is light hearted fun, intense action, witty one liners, and a non stop thrill ride from start to finish.

Overall the campaign to Uncharted 2 is exceptionally paced, from one thrilling set piece to another. It provides something that is filled with intense action, and designed well enough to be replayable for multiple playthroughs. The end game boss fight is a letdown for the most part, but the 8-10 hours of gameplay before that boss fight are exceptional and simply amazing. For completionists there is the option to play it on harder difficulties(hard and the far more difficult crushing difficulty) and hidden treasure chests that can be used to unlock skins, cheats, developer diaries and other extras.

When you're done with the campaign there is the multiplayer experience which is surprisingly addictive and very good. It plays a lot like other third person shooters(like gears of war) but Uncharted's platforming elements provide a new layer of strategy to and vertical gameplay that changes the pace for Uncharted 2's competitive multiplayer from the other games in the genre. All the maps are designed very well and generally provide the same type of layout for both teams on each side(with a few exceptions in between).

Each player starts with an AK-47 with the ability to pick up more powerful and better weapons across the map from a shotgun, sniper rifle, to something more heavy like a chain gun, grenade launcher, or the usual suspect a rocket launcher. While the AK-47 isn't the strongest weapon, and while it lacks the range of the FAL or the speed/power of the M4 it is good enough to be a productive weapon that won't make the player feel handcuffed from the get go.

The game has enough game modes to keep players playing for months. All of them are team oriented in 5 versus 5 action. The different game modes cover gametypes such as King of the Hill, Uncharted's version of Capture the Flag, elimination(deatmatch with no respawns), and a territory control type game mode. No one map comes off as a bad map for either game mode, and the maps are diverse enough in design to provide an edge for a different sty-le of player on each map. There might be some balancing issues as some of the perks may provide a major advantage for players who have played the game long enough. One such example is the aim down the irons perk which improves accuracy for players who aim down the sights. This can put those under the level 16 at a disadvantage until they to can use the same perk. While only a few perks really enter major game changing territory it is enough of an issue to cause a lack of balance.

The matchmaking system is very good although it is slow at times. Host dropping out isn't much of an issue, as the game has a smooth host migration that just resets all the players from the initial starting position(scores will stay the same). There is also the cinema mode for those that would like to save footage of there best moments, or would like to review there matches to see what they are doing wrong, or what they are doign right. All in all the multiplayer is design very well, and provides enough of an incentive or it's community to play months after the initial hype wears down.

The cooperative is a mixed bag, but provides a solid experience overall. It allows up to 3 players to do either an objective bases coop mission or a survival mode. The coop objective missions are basically a lot of the scenarios you see in the single player campaign, but now you have 2 allies. They are however more focuses for coop and for the most part do not show a drop off in difficulty just because of the additional players. Plus the heavy enemies that came in the later portions of these levels are menacing enough to make sure victory isn't an easy task.

Survival is fun for the most part, but unfortunantly doesn't hold up to superior modes like say a FireFight, Terrorist Hunt, Horde, etc that is found in other games. Although there is the nice addition of being able to buy upgrades for your cooperative weapons with the money you earn while playing the campaign/cooperative/competitive modes of Uncharted 2. These upgrades can improve accuracy, damage, or range of your weapon and can make passing the cooperative objectives or survival a much easier task.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves isn't a game that will revolutionize it's genre. It isn't a game that takes existing game design and improves in a dramatic fashion. What it does do is take a lot of the best designs in gaming and puts it together into one exceptionally good package. The campaign is intense, tightly paced, thrilling, and brilliantly designed from start to finish. The narrative is charming, cheesy at times, and provides a lot of the same joy you can get from a summer popcorn flick. The competitive multiplayer is addictive and designed for a long haul, and the coop is good enough to be worth some play time. If you enjoy third person action games or love adventure films like Indiana Jones than this is a must buy game.

New Zelda

Ok, I have something I have to get off my chest. Gamespot just posted an article on the upcoming Zelda game. Apparently, Nintendo is "trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game." Now just what those changes mean is debatable, and we'll all most certainly find out at E3 2010. But reading some of the comments, I was surprised at what people are saying about what those changes will be.

First of all, some people seem to want a first person view, something akin to Elder Scrolls Oblivion. I can't agree with this. A first person Zelda game?!?!? Seriously?! Although it worked for Oblivion, I can't say that I like it. I didn't like it in Mirrors Edge either, but then again, Zelda and Mirrors Edge are two different types of games. Maybe I'm alone, but if it isn't a shooter, I just don't like the first person view and definitely don't want to see it implemented in a Zelda game.

Second, I have to comment on the control scheme. I played both the Wii version and the Gamecube version, and I have to say that the Gamecube version was my prefered version. Just because it offered a traditional control scheme. Using the Wiimote for fishing and for the bow and arrow was a perfect fit, but I didn't like it when it came to the sword fighting mechanic. Flailing my arm back and forth got old real quick.
I'm sure that with Wiimotion+ it will give ita broader range of movement, but even with that I just don't like the idea. I am a fit person already, I don't need my games to make me get off the couch and jump around like a nut. Sure it's novel for drunken party nights with friends, but when I want to sit down and get lost in Hyrule, I want a traditional control scheme. I don't want to have to buy a dozen different Nintendo peripherals just to play a new Zelda. I don't want to have to tramp on a Wii fit just to make link walk.

Someone also made a comment that New Super Mario Brothers doesn't offer multiple control schemes, but that's a 2-D side scrolling platformer. Zelda is a full 3-D action adventure game. Smash Brothers, had multiple control schemes, and so do other Wii games, so why can't a new Zelda? This should be a no brainer.

My next point is the story. If major changes are gonna happen to the structure of the game, can we expect something different story-wise? If you have ever played a Zelda game then you know the basic structure is Link starts off as an innocent boy, Zelda gets kidnapped, link becomes a man and sets off back and forth across Hyrule to acquire the tools to rescue her. If changes are going to be made to the formula, here are my suggestions.

Time for a new protagonist. And not so much new, as different. And when I say different, I mean Zelda, or rather Sheik. What if this time Gannon kidnaps a young helpless Link and Zelda must take up the Sheik disguise to rescue Link? Sheik sets out to retrieve the Master Sword and her own unique set of tools, weapons, and abilities to rescue Link. At least for the first half of the game, where the tides turn and Zelda gets caught and Link takes back the hero mantle!

Just my ideas, but who knows what the new Zelda game will have in store. I'm sure it will be a great game no matter what they do.

Farewell gamespot

Over the last week or so, i've been called a butthole, an idiot and a prick I've had two blog posts dedicated to how big an idiot i am. Having just been informed that the second blog post calling me an idiot is acceptable, as it doesn't mention me directly, as well as being moderated myself for reasons i cannot agree with, i've decided it's time to move on.

A place where a user can relentlessly insult and abuse other members and be allowed to continue posting, while those who go out of their way to be friendly are punished for petty Terms of Use technicalities is not for me.

I got Tagged 4 times!

Well, I haven't blogged ever since I announced I was taking a break from GS because I was going through a lot of work at school and other problems. I managed to get over that a while after that and I'm pretty sure many of you have already known that for a while.

Now I'll having a bit more time to spare to hang around here since I'm out of school again until next January. I won't just spend all my time here though. I'm planning on getting more in-depth with music theory and I plan on getting on shape to join my High School Football Team, something I always wanted to do but for some reason I always missed the try outs. And I'll find some other useful ways to use my time and I'm open to suggestions.

Anyways what really got me into typing this blog is the fact that I got tagged by 4 people >_>, don't worry though I love confessing

So here are 5 + 4(Times I got tagged) things you might not know about me:

1.My dream University (literally) is the University of Cambridge.

2.I'm a Steelers fan but you didn't know that because I don't usually talk about football.

3.It annoys the hell out of me to see someone barefoot and wearing jeans at the same time >_>

4.Ever since I started High School I get all As and one damn B

6.I'm totally digging Porcupine Tree even though I had looked over them before

7.Daft Punk were the first thing I listened to voluntarily when I was a child, mainly because I used to be and I still am obsessed with robots and I used to think they were robots. But then I got to appreciate them because of their music.

8.I have an M formed by my veins on my left arm, I like to think it stands for metal

9.I am undecided of what I want to do in life, and the things I want to do I am not very good at. But there's always room for improvement.

Xbox360 = epic fail

The Xbox360 = Epic fail (1st technology, 2nd, hardware, And now games.)

Why I do I think so? Because of the recent game releases. The greatest thing the 360 released was Halo 3 ODST.(Which is good but not great.) PS3 on the other hand puts out greatness this year and the nest year to follow. 1st we have Killzone2 which runs a train on anything Halo.(From Halo 2 - Halo3 ODST) Both in the graphics dept and Gameplay dept. KZ2 shooting and story is both more convincing and more fulfilling Than anything bungie has ever come up with as far as the Halo universe is concerned.(you got to thank M$ for messing up the Halo series it could have been alot better of a game)Also we have Infamous Which sold 568,000 copies less than prototype on both consoles.((look at Videogame chartz.com.) We got the surprise hit Uncharted 1(2,600,000 +) Now Uncharted 2 which is already at 1 million. (Both uncharted games shhh on Gears of War) And the PS3 itself just moved an additional 440,000units last week in America. Because Uncharted 2 is such an epic game!)We got Demon Souls (no RPG out there on the 360like it), We got Heavy Rain coming, We got gran tourism 5 (Which is going to completely destroy Forza 3{and it's 2 or 3 discs}in both world wide sales and game play) PS3 is that console the Xbox 360 fails once again, and it's not in Hardware this time it's in software. All these so called huge 360 sales are mostly in the US nobody outside the US cares about the 360anymore. M$ might as release another 360 like they plan too. But that won't matter like everyone is this business knows it's about the games, PS3 has them now and they are better games. Sales are really not that important, to the regular consumer(as I)the only reason why I post some of the PS3's sales is because that's all you Xbots throw in PS3 fans faces every chance you get. But in the end PS3 and it's games will surpass the 360's because Many more people see the true value of the PS3's high QUALITY games.

Years ago I was a 360 fanboy,But there is no way on god's green earth will I continue support such a broken down, crap game plauged console. Went through 3 of those junk boxes and mean while thePS3 games got more plentifully and better. I have a sega saturn, a Dreamcast, and an NES that still works my PS1 just died a year ago. My 360 doesn't exist anymore. note to M$. Next gen make sure you get real electronic gurus to design your next console, Thank you.

Not a moderator anymore... officially...

#258 - A California man set off 18 bug bombs in his apartment to rid it of cockroaches. The subsequent explosion shattered windows and almost blew the roof off. Live roaches were seen crawling through the rubble. - The Week Magazine

How relevant is this fact to my blog? ...I don't know, I just thought it was funny.
_______________

I just recently decided to take a short leave of absence from the mod badge. Which is why the emblem isn't there anymore. Havent had time to even post at the site and it didn't feel right to have people asking me about mod-related things when there are more active moderators floating around out there.

So why am I away so much? Am I sick or something? Not really... but.... I'm gonna steal a feature from one of my favorite users on the site, Katamari, and just add an insightful quote to my blog:

"Stress is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness"

Sometimes, things have a habit at jumping at you all at once. One day you're living a calm and quiet life filled with laughter and butterflies... and a month later you're hit by a dozen problems and deadlines that you need to get a grip on yesterday... and soon enough you realize that you have to make some sacrifices to stop things from piling up on you. Being a moderator at Gamespot is one of the many great things that I have to give up before I go nuts, but I'll probbaly try to return to the mod team sometime down the line as soon as I've cured this mental illness of mine.

I'll still try to get back to Gamespot as often as I can, taking a complete break from GS isn't something I'm willing to do yet, but for a wittle while longer, I hope you'll be patient with me and my rabbit-hole ways.

Also, the current mod-team really is a great asset to the site, trust a guy whos been on the inside. I'll miss talking to them as much as I used to and I wish them the best of luck with their future contributions to the site.

Anime Watch!

Ok guys and gals, I'm little by little becoming active here at GS

So, today I'll be talking a bit of some animes I've been watching in the my past days/weeks/months.

For today I'll be talking about 4 anime!

Shall we start?

1. Kurokami:

Kurokami Front

I finished watching this anime a few days ago actually, and the reason it took me along time(started like 2-3 weeks ago) was because I watched one episode per day (sometimes 2 he he). Nonetheless, this anime is action packed. If you are one of those that love full detailed fighting scenes and shocking storyline, then I'd recommend you this anime. I won't give away anything, for those that haven't watched it yet. and those of you who have, I'm sure you enjoyed it too.

next up is...

2. Soul Eater:

Soul Eater

Now, I'm going to be honest, this anime is laugh out loud kind of anime. It has deep storyline, humorous scenes and epic fighting. It has everything you need in it. There are some scenes I had to watch over and over because of the epicness that it had. xD.

Anyways, this anime is quite long (51 episodes) and short (compared to other anime). But I will guarantee that this anime is pure awesome. Again, won't give away ad neither those who had watched it .

Continuing on we have...

3.Code Geass:

Code Geass

Ok, ok ok....I'm sure this anime is pretty popular all over the world. So I won't go into a lot of details. I'll numerate the core things this anime has:

1-Epic battles

2-Mysterious and shocking storyline (meaning it's really really good)

3-Addictive

So those of haven't watched...go now and cry with joy.

Alrighty 1 left...and it is...

4. Nabari No Ou

Nabari

Alright, hum...I'm currently watching this anime, but I'm almost finished so I'll just put it here. Ok, this anime is basically what some people call a more "sophisticated" Naruto anime. Shorter, character designs are more detailed and storyline is straight to the point. However there is a difference in the anime...which is that throughout the series, there's a close relationship going on between the main character and another character. You might be asking..."Mafia...that's normal". Yes it is, but for me...well, it's not gay relationship...but like someone told me, it's a boy love (NOT GAY LOVE, making sure), sometimes you would feel like....eck lol. Anyways, if you want something different with a ninja/samurai taste you should see Nabari.

Alright guys and gals that's it for me today I have an angry mob of Naruto fans waiting and for me outside my house with pitchforks and torches. I'll post another blog with more anime later on, and once I get rid of this angry mob.

Cya later! And please do write which anime you would recommend for me to watch! I like deep story plot, awesome action, humor, shounen, drama, just a bit of everything

DJ Boy

I don't think I ever made a blog about my GS level. So here it is:

I'm level 38, DJ Boy.

I'm super awesome. Or "super toll" as the germans would say.

Here's me in Prague in the city park at the memorial to the victims of communism.

Wonderful day

I got to spend three hours watching the original series of Star Trek (we decided to watch that instead of The Twilight Zone because we were too lazy to pull her DVD collection out of storage in her closet) on Hulu with the girl I really like (who is, sadly, already attached, but for some reason, I don't actually seem to care too much about that fact-I appear to be quite fine being in the "just friends" realm, which is something I would never have expected to be happy with). The whole time I spent with her was wonderful.

I hope to do it again some time soon.

Goodbye

I feel miserable while I write this, but I feel this step is completely necessary and I feel that those who bother to take the time reading my blog/profile deserve to know what's happening.

I'm gone from GameSpot. I know some of you will (hopefully) miss me, but it is not the end you'll hear from dear-old Ben. Oh no. I'm all over the interwebz! At the end of the post, I'll post links to ways to see what I'm doing if you're really interested.

There were some memories, oh yes. I made plenty of friends (even a few enemies) along the way. Some of my best memories include:

  • The struggle to get un-banned after I was mistakenly done so
  • Getting my 360 FAQ & Game Reccomendation Thread stickied on the 360 board (still is stickied I believe)

But then something happened that I have deemed to be the last straw:

  • 7 day suspension for calling someone "ignorant"

Yes, 7 days for that. A bit absurd, and truthfully, fully reinforced my stance that mod MAILERDAMON was out to get me. Do I have proof? No. But as far as I could tell, all of the moderations I've recieved that I felt were questionable seemed to have come from him/her after asking on the Ask the Mods board.

GameSpot is a wonderful site. I still trust their reviews the most over IGN, I get a good amount of my news from here and the community is wonderful. However, limiting free speech on the site is wrong; you can't swear or hurt someone's feelings without being punished for it. Is it the mods fault? Yes and no. Many of the rules in the Terms of Service are vage (sp?) and that leaves many moderations up to the judgement of the mods, which puts them in a difficult situation and one that I feel is wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I am constantly pursuing a career in journalism, and GameSpot is a destination I would love to end up, but there are also other communities on other sites that have welomed me with open arms, much as this one did way back in 2005. If you take anything way from this post take this:

GameSpot is a wonderful site and I will always remember it.

Follow me on:

Please look out for my name in the future; I may end up working here on GameSpot someday! Please read my site (Choffcast.com) and listen to the podcast I'm on (Checkpoint Reached). Visit me on Giant Bomb. Thank you for the memories, and I sincerely hope all of our paths cross again. And who knows, maybe I'll pop on in every once in a while for a visit.

Sincerely,
-- Ben "Choffy" Tolmachoff

It's almost time...

In two more days, the interwebs will explode with the cries of fanboys and gamers everywhere. The biggest gaming event of the year is set to happen. Massive ownage, megatons, and exclusives will be handed out and gamers all over the world will explode of excitment and glee. What are your predictions for this year? Will you be watching the conferences live? Tell me in the comments damnit!

Here are my predictions from back in April

Nintendo

After a very poor performance last year and very little big games coming out, I expect Nintendo come with a BIG splash this year. Last year's E3 conference was the worst I have ever seen. Who can forget that terrible showing of Shawn White's Snowboarding and that borderline creepy Ravi Drums appearance. They better deliver! A new Mario? New Zelda? Will that Kid Icarus game finally be reveiled? Who knows? Not me.

Predictions
- The standard talking about their sales and how much better they are for the average person
- Footage of Punch Out!!! Wii
- Zelda: Spirit Tracks footage
- New Wii channels shown
- A new Wii____ game
- Trailer for new Zelda game

Wishes
- Pikmin 3 trailer
- Dragon Quest X trailer
- Info about WiiHD
- DS2 announced
- Donkey Kong Wii

Microsoft

I actually think Microsoft has the most to prove this year. I mean their exclusive lineup is the videogame equivalent of tumbleweed rolling down a dirt road. It will be tough to top last year's megaton of FFXIII. Hopefully they just give up on crap like Lips and You're In The Movies or atleast DON'T show it at their conference because seriously, they looked like children during the presentation. That's not the type of image that Microsoft wants to project.

Predictions
- Alan Wake gameplay or trailer
- Halo ODST gameplay and live demo
- New Rare games announced, preferably KI3 and PD2
- Another Sony exclusive stolen, hopefully not MGS4
- Lips 2 and You're In The Movies 2 shown...
- BioShock 2 gameplay

Wishes
- Final Fantasy Versus XIII announced to be multiplat
- Strider 3 announced
- New Conker game
- MGS4 announced (for the lulz, I don't care about the series)
- Vagrant Story 2 (BIG WISH!)

Sony

Sony hasn't done that much better than Microsoft last year but atleast they announced quite a few new games like MAG. R&C: Quest for Booty, and Resistance: Retribution. They said a bold statement that this year's E3 is going to be the biggest in 11 years. I hope for Sony's case that are correct, and make the console war much interesting.

Predictions
- MAG gameplay
- Final Fantasy XIII gameplay
- God of War 3 trailer + gameplay
- R&C: Crack in Time gameplay
- Team ICO game shown
- Sales talk about PSP blah blah blah

Wishes
- Team ICO game shown
- Final Fantasy XIII NA demo announced
- Tomba 3 shown (Big wish)
- Strider 3 trailer
- Vagrant Story (BIG WISH!)

Here's the full schedule of conferences

Microsoft Press Conference: 10:30 am PT, June 1
Electronic Arts Press Conference: 2:00 pm PT, June 1
Ubisoft Press Conference: 5:00 pm PT, June 1
Nintendo Press Conference: 9:00 am PT, June 2
Sony Press Conference: 11:00 am PT, June 2

Which conferences you gonna watch this year? I might need to skip cIass to see the main ones. It's going to be the first year I might miss them but oh well. I can't wait for the forums to explode. Gentlemen, this is it. Nerd mode, on.

Expect a HUGE opinion blog from yours truly.
