Super Columbine Massacre RPG

While I was watching Attack of the Show on G4 one afternoon the subject of violent video games came up. Now most gamers know the whole debate already surrounding this controversial subject. Games can be argued as a medium in which people express themselves and as a result it is protected under the first ammendment of our Constitution. However is it possible to push this envelope a little too far. One game in particular had me questioning this very matter. The title of the game was Super Columbine Massacre RPG. In this game you play the roles of the two gun men who went into Columine High School and killed 14 people. The game plays like a traditional turn based RPG where guns and pipe bombs play as your main weapons. Of course I couldn't form an unbiased opinion without first trying the game for myself. After messing around with the downloading a little bit  I finally managed to get the game playing on my computer. What I found was not exactly what I thought I would find. While it's true that this game did indeed feature the two infamous gun men the game wasn't so much a killing simulator as it was a very interesting story. Now I know this is a touchy subject for many people so understand me when I say I in no way what so ever agree or support what those two boys did on that day. There actions were wrong and by no means did they have the right to shoot up that school and kill those people. However the game did give me some insight into why those boys did what they did. The game itself is pretty wacky. After you're done shooting up the school then eventually turn the guns on yourself your character winds up in hell battling demons. Yeah pretty odd stuff. However the reason why this game is so important is because I believe it forces video games into a new light. Now it's hard to justify games as art, but I believe that like movies and music games are a medium in which people can express their creativity and tell their stories. The only thing I hope is that the time will come when games are not looked at as toys or mere distractions, but as a means in which people express themselves.
