John Dyson's second release heralds a return to a more classical side as portrayed by Dyson's former group, Wavestar. On Aquarelle, his melodic, cosmic synth-rock portrays a broad vision of voyages through the underseas world. Four of the pieces run over eight minutes, and cover a range of moods and tempos with carefully considered changes and thoughtful structure. Dyson's progressive/symphonic/electronic melanges employ a battery of synthesizers, often multilayered with rhythms stated in compelling ways. In between are sensitive interludes, intros and innuendos revealing a real flair for deep space music, especially on the Kitaro-like "Angel Falls" and "The Lady Aquarelle."
