James Dapogny and Butch Thompson, two of the top classic jazz pianists, play a very appealing set of duets on this Stomp Off LP. Eight of the performances (including a three-song Fats Waller medley) are piano duets; Thompson switches to clarinet for two songs; and the pianists take a solo feature apiece. Although piano duets can be overcrowded, Dapogny and Thompson leave plenty of room for each other. Since they are both experts in Jelly Roll Morton's music, he is represented along with Duke Ellington, Waller, W.C. Handy and Sidney Bechet, among others.
