The Raindogs are a classic example of a band that enjoyed favorable reviews from rock critics but didn't break through commercially. Arguably the band's strongest album, Border Drive In Theatre proves that their obscurity wasn't due to a lack of worthwhile songs. Going for a rootsy, earthy sort of sound, the Raindogs bring to mind Tom Petty on such memorable cuts as "Carry Your Cross," "Some Fun" and "I'd Call That Love." One of the CD's most thought provoking cuts is "Dance of the Freaks," which vividly describes a prostitute's disturbing world. None of the songs sound overproduced, and in fact, the Raindogs' down-to-earth, unpretentious nature is something they use to their advantage.
