The music on this LP (which has been reissued on CD by Document) is timeless. The first of two volumes is comprised of three of the only four piano solos made by the obscure ragtime-oriented Alonzo Yancey (Jimmy's older brother), seven by the lyrical Jimmy Yancey (including "Death Letter Blues" which has a rare vocal) and six from the erratic but exciting Cripple Clarence Lofton. All three pianists are heard in prime form and contrast each other very well. Easily recommended to jazz, blues and boogie-woogie collectors who do not already have the Document CDs.
