Critic's Review

4.0 out of 5 stars Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
This is the second of two LPs reissuing the 1943 recordings of pianists Jimmy and Alonzo Yancey and Cripple Clarence Lofton. Alonzo Yancey (Jimmy's older brother) only recorded four numbers in his life; three are on Vol. 1 while his "Ecstatic Rag" is a highlight on this album. In addition there are nine numbers from Jimmy Yancey (including two that have vocals by Mama Yancey) and four from Lofton. Overall the music is quite enjoyable and unique in its own way; all of it has since been reissued on CD.
