Critic's Review

3.5 out of 5 stars Richard Meyer & William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
Songwriter Greg Trooper's independent CD with his band the Flatirons contains great examples of his thoughtful commercial style, which is not so much folk as folk-rock, with its ringing guitars and catchy hooks. Key tracks here are: the title cut, a haunting World War II memoir co-written by Sid Griffin; the rollicking, country-tinged "Ireland" (which may or may not be about the nation); and "Blind Spot," an acid-tinged romantic tribute with harmony vocals by Rosanne Cash. The 1999 KOCH Records reissue contains two bonus tracks, "Too Bad For You," a bouncy, finger-picking showcase with a rueful lyric recorded in 1998, and "A Train Runs By My Door," recorded in 1996.
