Critic's Review

4.5 out of 5 stars John Dougan, All Music Guide
The best Celibate Rifles recording? Yes, but only on the days it's not Roman Beach Party, or maybe Mina Mina Mina. Along with being the only album in Australian rock history to contain two songs about the troubles in Northern Ireland ("Sean O'Farrell" and "Belfast"), Blind Ear continues the Rifles' maturation process from snarling young punks to snarling adult punks. Sounding at times like the Stones (and that's meant as a compliment), the Rifles -- now nearly a decade into their career -- were recording some of their best songs. For proof, listen to the two aforementioned songs, along with their critique of yuppiedom ("Wonderful Life") and the closing track, "O Salvation." Another record that should have been huge.
