A wide ranging, three-disc compilation of incidental and soundtrack music made for various German films shows little of the Can touch until disc three when things get sonically more interesting with tense, multi-layered soundscapes, dark, rhythmic drones, and some shouted vocals. The previous two discs sound precisely like what they were written for -- to accompany an image on screen that most listeners will never see. Schmidt is adept at wearing many hats, so you hear love themes, action themes, and the like, but the high import price and size of the collection might deter most Can fans. For the curious, Can members Jaki Liebzeit and Michael Karoli play on most tracks, with Holger Czukay turning up on one ("Flachenbrand").
