Prone Mortal Form by

Heavily influenced by Metallica and Testament and also appreciative of Black Sabbath, Only Living Witness demonstrated that it had some potential on its debut album, Prone Mortal Form. Clearly, this wasn't the work of a band that was willing to go out of its way to appeal to mainstream pop sensibilities or go after fans of commercial hard rock and arena rock -- gothic metal offerings like "VTA," "Voice of Disrepair" and "December" takes no prisoners, and Only Living Witness is obviously playing for headbangers who like their metal blistering, ferocious and brutally intense. But at the same time, this band isn't without a sense of melody. Prone Mortal Form is a long way from commercial pop-metal, but it isn't an amelodic grindcore album either. Not a gem but certainly competent, this CD indicated that Only Living Witness was worth keeping an eye on.
