Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide
Paul Haslinger has been a frequent guest performer on Lightwave projects. Christoph Harbonnier and Christian Wittman are the core members of the ensemble. Mundus Subterraneous features all three from start to finish. The CD title comes from a "spectacular" book by Athanasius Kircher, a 17th century Jesuit priest. His books and theories were quite controversial. That led to his being deemed mentally unstable (with a little bit of truth). This music reflects the controversy and Kircher's emotional instability. The atmospheres are dark and foreboding. The experimental sounds border on avant-garde. This essential CD will appeal to fans of Paul Sauvanet, Tales, Stephen Philips, and Larry Gaab.
