Reading, PA's John Flywheel released its national debut on the independent Backstreet label in 1995 after honing its live chops for years in the small Reading club circuit. Wisely, the trio recorded its eponymous debut more or less as a live band, with minimal production adornments, thereby emphasizing its live strengths. John Flywheel sound like a tougher REM or Smithereens, mixing indie-pop jangle with AC/DC-style power chord riffing.
