Critic's Review

4.0 out of 5 stars Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
During the 1980s and '90s, pianist James Dapogny has led one of the top trad bands around. For his second Jazzology album with his octet (which features cornetist Paul Klinger, trombonist Bob Smith, Kim Cusack on clarinet and alto and tenor saxophonist Russ Whitman on reeds in addition to the talented leader), Dapogny performs warhorses (such as "Chicago" and "Charleston"), 1920s and '30s obscurities ("'Tain't No Sin," "Junk Man" and "Back Home in Illinois"), his own "For No Reason at All in E-Flat" and even the theme from The Muppet Show. Highly recommended to fans of hot pre-swing jazz.
