Thanks to their first few albums, bands like Iron Maiden and Venom usually get the lion's share of credit for helping create thrash metal. But another deserving band would be GBH. While the other aforementioned bands wore heavy metal duds and sported long manes of hair, GBH unmistakably looked like punks. On record however, it was a whole different story, as the manic guitar riffing of such cult classics as City Baby Attacked by Rats seemed like a blueprint for James Hetfield's rhythm work on Metallica's Kill 'Em All. This claim is certainly evidenced on the 2005, double-disc GBH compilation, Dead on Arrival: A Punk Rock Anthology, which traces the group's highlights from their early singles all the way up to their 2002 release Ha Ha. Many a mosh pit has been started over the years thanks to such tracks as "Time Bomb," "War Dogs," the title track from City Baby Attacked by Rats, "Diplomatic Immunity," and "Drugs Party in 526," all of which are included here. And the group continues to issue rabid punk-thrashers to this very day, as evidenced by such recent tracks as "Crush 'Em."
