Tommy Roe was one of those pop singers who had the voice, the writers, and the look to scale the rooftops. While he had some major-league smashes, he never quite caught on. But for those curious about the real sound of 1970s pop, or those who have been in Roe's camp for decades, this collection will serve well. The hits like "Dizzy" and "Sheila" are here, as are tracks he nailed in terms of interpretation -- "Sugar Sugar," "Heather Honey," "Sweet Pea," and (of course) "Hanky Panky." There are a massive 20 cuts on this set, and all of them warrant repeated listening. This collection serves far better than his rather spotty LPs. While Roe's sweeter-than-molasses delivery isn't for everybody, he fit the bill quite nicely for the time when AM and FM radio were definitely on different sides of the tracks.
