Bye Bye Blackbird contains four lengthy cuts recorded live circa 1962 by the classic John Coltrane quartet with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones. These performances were captured in Europe by an audience member and finds Coltrane blistering throughout; you can hear the saxophonist start to take the music to another level which, ironically, would find fruition when Trane replaced Jones and Tyner with Rashied Ali and Alice Coltrane. Collectors should note that this version of the song "Bye Bye Blackbird" was previously released on the Original Jazz Classics LP of the same name. While the performances are amazing, unfortunately the sound quality is not.
