Buried eight paragraphs into Bill Dahl's informative essay included in the liner notes, An Introduction to Marianne Faithfull finally comes clean with the fact that this "introduction" is nothing more than her mediocre album Rich Kid Blues -- or True, as it was later reissued -- repackaged again. Recorded in 1971, the album was originally rejected by the Bell label and didn't see release until 1984 where it was met with an overall critical shrug. General consensus is right; it's not an embarrassment but it meanders and flirts with uninspired pop and country-rock, two genres that her 1978 release Faithless would put to better use. The Fuel 2000 label messes with the original album's running order a bit, but it doesn't flow any better so the only reason must be to get Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" upfront. Course, you have to already know it's a Dylan song since no writing, production, musician, or any other type of credit is provided. While fans might appreciate getting this minor effort at a fair price, passing this off as any kind of representative introduction to Faithfull is a shameful act. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide [-] Collapse
