A decade after scoring the World War II adventure Where Eagles Dare, composer Ron Goodwin returned for the 1978 sequel Force 10 from Navarone, recapturing the heroism and epic scale that typify his most memorable efforts. Goodwin's main theme proves as stirring as it is flexible, adapting seamlessly to settings spanning from pure suspense ("Where Is It") to gentle introspection ("Morning"). The music is larger than life yet never cartoonish, buoyed by a sense of exuberance all too rare in the often-mechanical action genre. Film Score Monthly's 2006 reissue lives up to the label's usual standards, boasting dynamic sound, insightful production notes, and track-by-track analysis.
