An integral part of the rap underground scene of the late '90's, Jurassic 5 has announced the re-release of their debut EP J5, with J5 Deluxe Re-issue on November 11th via Decon. Revered as one of the most classic hip-hop albums, the release introduced the world to the collective genius of Cut Chemist, DJ Nu Mark, Chali 2na, Akil, Zaakir and Marc7, who went on to record 3 other critically acclaimed albums and sold over a million units in the US alone. Due to contractual disputes, this masterpiece has been out of print since 2004. Now on the heels of the 11th anniversary of its release, Jurassic 5 has decided to re-issue a limited edition of this album with a bonus CD that features 15 exclusive, rare songs and for the first time ever, a full length DVD that chronicles the moment Jurassic 5 broke through, as well as performance footage from their first world tour. Chali 2na puts it simply, "No better way for it to end than to start at the beginning." Directed by Decon's Jason Goldwatch, "The Jurassic Period" documentary shows this seminal group at the beginning of an era that would be marked by their important contribution to hip-hop. Utilizing analog effects and heavy layering of images and sound beds, Goldwatch has created an experimental, music driven time piece. The hand-crafted documentary is also accompanied by a 30 minute performance "Jurassic 5 at Brixton Academy" as well as the "Concrete Schoolyard" music video. Formed in 1993, Jurassic 5 was originally two separate crews who played at the same venue. After collaborating together on the song, "Unified Rebelution" they combined and became Jurassic 5. They released their first record, J5 in 1997. The EP cemented their position as one of the top acts in the '90s HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_hip_hop" \o "Alternative hip hop" alternative hip hop movement. Critics sung the group's praises, stating that they embodied an upbeat vibe, vocal harmonies, and inventive samples and the group was "more than the sum of its parts and achieves synergy by artfully juggling party anthems alongside relationship reflections and conscious think-pieces." -The Source. After 11 years it still rings true, Jurassic 5 was the foremost proponent of the sound and values that marked hip-hop's golden age and the release of their limited edition album, J5 Deluxe Re-Issue on November 11th will cement this to fans and critics both. Download And Streams Instructions
When you've found the song you want to hear or purchase, you arrive at the Downloads and Streams page. Here's where you get the song, from whichever listed music service you prefer. All you have to do is click your choice, and MP3.com will launch whatever application (iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.) is needed to handle it, if any.

Downloads Vs Streams
To draw a comparison to the old style of music listening, a download is like buying a single, and a stream is like hearing the song on the radio. Downloaded music lives on your computer, and can be transferred to any compatible portable device. Streamed music is fleeting - once you hear it, it's gone, just like radio.

File Formats
Digital music, like any other computer file, is always in a specific format, whether it's MP3, WMA, AAC, or something else. This column tells you what that format is (MP3, WMA, etc.).

What is DRM?
DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. Several online music services wrap their song files in DRM in order to have control over what you do with the files. It's a hassle for consumers, but the flipside of the coin is that without it, record labels would only post a tiny fraction of what's available today on the Internet.

How do I download from MP3.com?
This part's easy… any time you're on a song, artist, or album page, and you see a button called "Download It," click the button. Even if the download lives in a store such as the iTunes Music Store, which exists within iTunes, MP3.com will open up iTunes and you'll see the song there. So essentially, you can use MP3.com as one easy-to-use front-end for all of our listed music stores.

What are the differences between Music services?
There are two main types of downloadable music services: a la carte downloads, and subscription downloads. A la carte download stores typically charge 99 cents per song download, and allow you to play the song forever, assuming you live that long. Subscription download stores charge a flat monthly fee and allow you to download all the tracks you can eat for as long as you keep paying the subscription. This allows easy access to a vast quantity of music, but you'll need to keep paying the monthly fee in order to listen to the music. Some sites offer both types, and some offer streaming only, with no downloads.

iTunes
This is Apple's online music store – the one that started it all. It offers a la carte downloads and podcasts, with no subscription available at this time. Songs purchased from iTunes play on any iTunes-compatible MP3 player.
