Ann Peebles' debut, 1969's This is Ann Peebles, was reissued on the same CD with a latter-day record, 1979's Handwriting Is on the Wall, by HI Records in 1995. Although each record has its share of weak spots, they remain infectious and enjoyable, with the former leaning toward gritty early-'70s soul and the latter toward funk and disco. The two musical styles on the disc don't necessarily sit well together, but both albums have been out of print for years, so their reappearance on disc is welcome.
