Corduroy isn't anything if they're not about style, and The New You is their finest creation to date. Working from the same acid-jazz foundation that informed their previous records, the band has added slightly ironic flourishes of lounge music and movie soundtracks while beginning to develop a sophisticated sense of pop craft, largely modeled after Steely Dan. Portions of The New You sag under the group's own pretensions, but most of the record is endearingly kitschy, smooth and stylish.
