Jack Jones had stopped appearing on the record charts by the time he appeared at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas in June 1970, but even before then he was primarily a live performer, which makes this a notable release for him. Giving short shrift to his recorded legacy by performing only a short medley of hits "Lollipops And Roses" and "Wives And Lovers" early in the set, Jones offered a mixture of recent pop hits like "Get Together," "Spinning Wheel," "Something," "Games People Play," and "Everything Is Beautiful" with standards like "God Bless The Child," "The More I See You," and "You Made Me Love You." At 32, he may have been a singer who, on record, was caught between generations, too old to be a classic-pop crooner and too young to be a rock 'n' roller, but in performance that worked to his advantage, giving him an intergenerational appeal that allowed him to be comfortable with material from both genres, at least to the degree necessary to please an audience of Vegas gamblers of presumably varying ages. And, not surprisingly for one of his experience, he was an engaging stage personality, bantering with the customers good-humoredly. (The album is a budget-priced release.)
