3.5 out of 5 stars Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
Priceless Jazz Collection is a mid-line series GRP assembled with the intention of providing affordable introductions to several of the most popular artists on their label. Pharoah Sanders isn't necessarily well served by this approach, since his music works better in the context of the original sessions, but the collection nevertheless is an effective eight-track sampler, featuring such seminal reocordings as "Astral Traveling," "Naima," "Bluesin' for John C.," "Japan," "Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt," "Thembi" and "The Creator Has a Master Plan." Collectors will already have all this material, but curious listeners will find that this is an affordable introduction to Sanders.
