The scratchy electronica of A Picture of End tend to come off as a more accessible approach to the sound of the Mego label and the Viennese scene -- the sound sets Face uses are far more normal than this aesthetic, and their organizations aren't nearly as off-kilter, but there's something of the same experimental, non-club-oriented approach to electronics slipping through in the duo's work. This comes through mainly in A Picture of End's lack of reliance in beats (something that's rather nice, given the late-nineties electronic scene) and the concrete space that's left between the record's tones -- tracks like "A Kindness Which Isn't are efficiently atmospheric, and the record as a whole has a sparse and composed feel which is far more accessible (if less idiosyncratically abstract) than artists like Fennesz or Hecker. ~ Nitsuh Abebe, All Music Guide [-] Collapse
