Recorded live, this split album collects highlights from live concerts in Holland, Germany, and Switzerland, capturing explosive performances from the post-punk groups the Ex and Dog Faced Hermans. This is an excellent pairing of the two groups who share a similar aesthetic -- a composite blend of punk, folk, free improvisation, and noise rock. This September 1989 tour recording highlights Dog Faced Hermans' fierce, upbeat tendencies on "Supressa," "Bella Ciao," "Too Much for the Red Ricker," and an evocative interpretation of "John Henry" with the group stretching out in an improvisational manner on the traditional ballad, while the Ex on the other side deliver their signature high-energy stabs on "Elvis & I," "Mousetrap," and "Meanwhile at McDonnas." Their political punk raves "The State of Freedom," "Get Your Share," and "The Buzzword Medley" are exceptional displays of the group's extraordinary instrumental vocabulary, yet the songs suffer a little in recording quality, which is live and raw.
