Treat Her Like a Show Cat by
The Seymores!
Critic's Review
Greg Prato, All Music Guide
On the Seymores' second full-length release, Treat Her Like a Show Cat, the band offers more of their sometimes hyped-up, sometimes lazy alternative rock. Produced by Cracker member David Lowery (who also guests on a couple of tracks), the band's sound is a kind of throwback to the early '90s, when quirky, unpredictable bands (Pavement, Sebadoh) were all the rage. It seems as if the Seymores would have had a better chance at commercial success back then, which is a shame since they are a solid, talented outfit. The track "$2.75" is a sleepy piece of alterna-pop, while elsewhere, the group rocks like there's no tomorrow (the album's opener, "Sicker Than You," "Sublease You," etc.). They also tackle early-'80s new wave ("Personal History") as well as Teenage Fanclub-sounding ditties ("The First Lady of Delaware").
