This fine import brings together some of Albert Ammons' best work. Cut during his prime years, the 20 tracks include two of the boogie-woogie master's classic piano solos, "Boogie Woogie Stomp" and the nicely gauged blues "Chicago in Mind." The band material is not quite as captivating, but still delivers enough in the way of quality to keep things on the right track. In addition to his regular band, the Rhythm Kings, Ammons gets sympathetic support from tenor saxophonist Don Byas, trumpeter Hot Lips Page, trombonist Vic Dickenson, and his son and future tenor great, Gene Ammons.
