Pure Sugar is an unabashed, unashamed group. They're not ashamed that they make infectious dance music and lead singer Jennifer Starr is not ashamed about her love of sex, either. Those two factors are the reason why Pure Sugar's eponymous debut album is such a trashy delight. It's lightweight, to be sure, but that's the point -- it's silly and sexy, with a good sense of humor and excellent dance tracks. Pete Lorimer and Richard "Humpty" Vission have a talent for creating catchy backing tracks, drawing from club music, disco, acid-jazz and funk. Starr adds personality to the cuts and while the results may be over-the-top and campy, they're nonetheless enjoyable. Only a handful of individual tracks, such as "Delicious" and a new version of their debut single "The Feeling," truly stand out, but the entire thing simply sounds like a good non-stop party.
